Seitan is a plant based, high protein, low fat and cholesterol free alternative to meat. Making it is a labor intensive process that involves the simplest of ingredients: flour and water. The flour is mixed with water to create a dough, and the dough is rinsed until most of the starch is removed. Later, we boil the rinsed dough in water with a little soy sauce, periodically stretching it to give it its signature meaty texture. Seitan is pre-cooked, so can be warmed and served in your favorite recipes in place of meat. Lightly pan frying or baking the seitan is a popular way to warm it.
